Here, Dock Ellis is traded for Doc Medich.  I thought that was cool.  How many Dock/Doc’s have there been in the Majors, and here are 2 of them in the same transaction.
Dock Ellis is of course famous for his LSD-enhanced no-hitter on June 12, 1970.  Here’s a cool video of him retelling the story.
Phil Garner managed 15 seasons in the Majors among Milwaukee, Detroit and Houston.
Dave Sax is brother of 1982 Rookie of the Year and 5-time All Star Steve Sax.

Bert Blyleven, Victor Cruz, and Nelson Norman were all involved in both the Blyleven trade from Rangers to the Pirates and the Pirates to the Indians.  They spent the late 70s - early 80s dancing around the same three teams, never becoming teammates.  For the purposes of this graph, time in the minors are still colored with the parent teams’ colors.
My inspiration for this layout comes from the always awesome Flip Flop Fly Ball - website & Tumblr

In 1980, Blyleven was traded from the Pirates to the Indians.  While in Pittsburgh he was as member of the 1979 World Series team.  Again, the team trading away Blyleven did not get much in return for their future Hall of Famer.  Unless you count the awesome baseball name of Butch Edge as a good return.  Interestingly, you’ll notice Nelson Norman and Victor Cruz, who were also part of the last Blyleven trade.

For the final leg in the trade, Pittsburgh sent Jason Bay to the Red Sox.  The Pirates lost only one player in the trade, and gained four.  Two of the players - LaRoche and Moss - are both still on the Pirates.  Hansen spent some time in Pittsburgh, but spent 2010 in High-A and AA ball in the Pirates’ organization.  Morris also spent 2010 in High-A and AA.
