Unidentified Chicago Cubs player tries to score vs. Boston Braves, Braves Field, ca. 1946-1952

After digitizing 36,516 photos taken by Jones for the Boston Herald-Traveler from 1917-1956, the Boston Public Library has begun uploading them to Flickr. A Boston Globe slideshow highlights the collection just in time for Opening Day at Fenway Park.

The guys at Stick and Ball Guy did some sleuthing and came up with 3 possible games for this photo:
May 19, 1946 (2)
June 17, 1948 (1)
June 17, 1948 (2)
If it’s May 16th, then that’s Hank Wyse sliding in and Phil Masi behind the plate.
If it’s the first game of the June 17th double header, it’s Gene Mauch sliding in to either Phil Masi or Bill Salkeld
If it’s the second game, it’s Mauch and Masi.
A full rundown of how this conclusion was reached can be found here, if you can follow along that is.
EDIT: See this for an update on the investigation
